BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team practiced for two hours in shorts and shells on Friday, which served as the Blazers final workout prior to scrimmaging on Saturday evening.
Saturday's scrimmage is set to begin at 7 p.m. CT on UAB's campus.
The Green and Gold coaching staff utilized a variety of drills for the Blazer players in Friday's workout, including 11-on-11 offense vs. defense and red zone formations.
Cornerbacks coach Anthony Blevins and safeties coach Brandon Sharp took some time to talk to the media and discuss the importance of improving and how the scrimmage is a great evaluation tool.
"I told my guys that this is the test," Sharp said. "We've been working toward (the scrimmage) since camp started. We're working on cleaning up the little details and getting better for tomorrow. They're all doing a great job communicating, and it's just about who's going to make the right checks and be in the right alignment come tomorrow."
Saturday's scrimmage is the first of several scheduled for the Blazers' fall camp.
Blevins added that attention to detail and finding different ways to grow as a unit is extremely important moving forward.
"We want (the players) to get better at one thing per a day, set that goal, talk about it, and then get better," Blevins said. "At the end of the day, we'll come back and evaluate it, but I think it's important that they focus on one thing at a time. Every day is fun to come out and watch these young guys as they improve."
The Blazers open the season against Troy at Legion Field on Sept. 1. Game time is set for 11 a.m. CT.
