Sand Volleyball Pair Named To AVCA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB's tandem of senior Heather Thomas and redshirt-junior Kirsten Gallagher was one of 16 pairs selected to compete in the first-ever AVCA Sand Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., from April 27-29.
The 16 pairs have been divided up equally into four groups to compete in pool play on Friday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT.
Gallagher and Thomas were placed in Pool 2 against the following three pairs: Pepperdine's Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross, USC's Kirby Burnham and Kelly Irvin and Florida Atlantic's Alessia Pizzocheri and Joanne Marras Tate
After the conclusion of pool play, the teams will be seeded to compete in Sunday's single-elimination Pairs Championship. The first round will begin at 8 a.m. CT, followed by the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. CT. The semifinals and finals will be played on the featured court, starting at 11 a.m. CT.
Also announced were the four sand volleyball programs selected to play in the Team Championship to be played on Saturday. Claiming the top seed was Pepperdine, followed by Florida State, Long Beach State and College of Charleston.
