UAB Hosts Mercer Sunday In Sand Volleyball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB sand volleyball team will play the final home match of its inaugural season Sunday when the Blazers welcome Mercer for a 1 p.m. CT contest at the UAB sand volleyball courts.
It will be the second meeting of the season between the teams, which squared off in late March in Macon, Ga.
UAB (4-3) defeated Mercer (1-5) by a 3-2 score in that contest on the strength of wins at the bottom three positions in the lineup, including a crucial three-set victory by Becca Howard and Michele Simmons at the No. 5 spot.
Both teams competed most recently against Tulane a little over a week ago with the Green Wave playing in Birmingham and Macon on back-to-back days on a road trip.
The Blazers posted a 4-1 win over Tulane on April 6, winning at every position except the top spot. The next day, Mercer claimed a 3-2 victory over the Green Wave for its first win of the season.
Sunday's contest will be the last of three home matches for UAB this season. The Blazers have just one regular-season contest remaining after Sunday's action with an April 21 date at Florida State.
