Men's Tennis Team Falls To Middle Tennessee, 5-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ----- The UAB men's tennis team entered Tuesday's dual match at Middle Tennessee having won nine of its last 10 duals. The 56th-ranked Blue Raiders have been on their own roll the past few weeks.
Unfortunately for the Blazers, Middle Tennessee made it seven straight wins and 10 of the last 11 Tuesday as the Blue Raiders defeated No. 59 UAB, 5-0, at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
Middle Tennessee won two of three doubles matches over the 59th-ranked Blazers to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. MTSU then won straight set victories at the No. 2-5 positions to win its seventh match in a row and 10th in the past 11 duals.
UAB's only victory on the day came at No. 2 doubles as Danny Manlow and Daniel Moser edged past Yannick Born and Marlon Brand, 9-8.
The Blue Raiders' Forrest Edwards posted the first singles win for MT with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lucas Dirube at No. 5. The other Middle Tennessee wins in singles came from Matthew Langley at No. 2, Christoph Lang at No. 3 and Ettore Zito at the No. 4 spot.
Langley was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over UAB's David Zimmerman while Lang got past Helliar at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. Zito's 6-1, 7-5 win over Moser at the No. 4 position provided the other singles victory for the Blue Raiders.
The match at No. 1 singles between UAB's Danny Manlow and MT's Ben Davis, as well as the contest at No. 6 between the Blazers' Tom Puetz and the Blue Raiders' Dimitri Pippos, were both suspended prior to their completion.
UAB will play host to Alabama on Wednesday at George Ward Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. CT.
