Sand Volleyball Travels To Mercer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB sand volleyball team returns to the courts on Wednesday with a road match at Mercer University in Macon, Ga. The two teams will square off at 3 p.m. CT.
UAB (1-1) is coming off its first program victory, when the Blazers swept Tulane, 5-0, on March 10 in Slidell, La. In that contest, four of the five UAB pairs swept the Green Wave in straight sets, 2-0.
The No. 1 pairing of Sam Serley and Alison Woods put forth a dominating effort, claiming their match by scores of 21-11 and 21-8. Serley recorded 10 kills and seven digs, while Woods followed up eight kills and 11 digs of her own.
One of the most impressive stat lines in the win over Tulane came from Rachel Fairbanks who was teamed up with Kiriana Hirini as the No. 3 pairing for the Blazers.
Fairbanks rocketed 11 kills along with adding 16 digs and six aces to win in straight sets.
Wednesday’s contest marks the first sand volleyball match in program history for Mercer.
