Tennis Team Wraps Up Play At Samford Invite

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ---- The UAB men's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday at the Samford Fall Invitational.
Freshman Luiz Felipe Pinto provided the Blazers with their only win against host Samford as he rallied to defeat Austin Akers, 0-6, 7-5, 12-10.
UAB, which played without three of its top players during the weekend event, had junior Chris Helliar drop a 6-3, 6-3 match to Zac Dunkle while Lucas Dirube fell to Elliot Barnwell, 6-3, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Gardner-Webb transfer Korhan Ates lost to the Bulldogs' Alex Sajonz, 6-3, 6-2. Nick Iannuzzi fell 6-4, 6-3 to Fares Kilani while David Cooper dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Samford's Garrison Laduca.
The Blazers will send representatives next weekend to the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships at Auburn, Ala. The tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 18.
