BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for roughly two hours on Tuesday morning in full pads and began the first day of implementing the scout preparation for the Florida Gators, which the Blazers battle in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The Blazers have a scheduled bye week to leadoff the 2011 campaign, while the Gators open up this Saturday, hosting Florida Atlantic.
Despite the week-one bye, head coach Neil Callaway is prepping his team as if it were game week against the Gators.
"We are transitioning from 11-on-11 drills to the scout team and both sides need to understand what we are trying to get done," Callaway said.
The sixth-year head coach has high expectations for the scout team and needs to get the most out of them with the tough task of taking on the Gators.
"The scout team has to give us a good look and good picture," Callaway said. "It has to be game day speed and we are not there yet. But, today was the first day of scout work and we have to get better at it.
"Every week is going to different, obviously we have a little bit longer for Florida but it's just because of the time involved," Callaway said. "Every week it's changing not only for the guys that are playing but the scout team guys that get us ready to play. We need to be sharp everyday."
Kickoff at Florida next Saturday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (Fox Sports Net).
