UAB Cross Country Ranks In Preseason Regional Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB cross country team will begin the 2011 season ranked sixth in the south region, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday.
A season ago, UAB ran to a sixth-place finish out of 25 teams at the NCAA South Regional in Hoover, Ala.
The Blazers return a veteran lineup of five senior contributors from the 2010 season in Clara Cid, Rhiannon Johns, Colleen Standridge, Lucy Taylor and Kristina Vaughn.
Leading the list of returnees will be Johns, who earned all-region honors at the 2010 South Regionals, setting a personal-record 6K time by almost two minutes to cross the line in 20:42.22. Additionally, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada product garnered honorable mention All-American accolades in the 5,000 meters at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
UAB kicks off the 2011 season on Thursday at the UAB-Samford Dual in Hoover, Ala.
