IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has announced its television schedule for the 2011 football season. The current confirmed schedule features nearly 70 games to air nationally or regionally, the highest number in league history.
National games will be televised on Fox Sports Net (FSN), FX, CBS Sports Network, ABC and ESPN. Included are several unopposed windows that provide tremendous exposure to C-USA, as well as numerous exciting league match-ups, and many challenging non-conference contests.
The 2011 football season marks the beginning of a new long-term agreement between Conference USA and Fox Sports Media Group for national television rights to a variety of marquee Conference USA events, including a minimum of 20 regular-season football games. Through two dozen owned and affiliated networks, FOX Sports Networks (FSN) programming reaches more than 85 million homes across the country. Conference USA joins Fox's impressive roster of other conference partners that includes the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, ACC, and SEC.
This season marks the seventh year of C-USA's partnership with CBS Sports Network that includes significant national and regional exposure for football, men's and women's basketball and other C-USA sports. CBS Sports Network is the original 24-hour sports channel dedicated to covering college sports. Available to 95 million homes nationwide, CBS Sports Network provides comprehensive college sports coverage, including 25 men's and women's sports, hundreds of live games annually, as well as in-depth studio and original programming.
"We are very pleased to have a record number of our football games on television and distributed to fans throughout the country," said Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky. "We are looking forward to an exciting conference season this fall and we're glad that people around the country will be able to watch so many of our games."
The FSN schedule kicks off on Thursday, September 1, when Memphis hosts Mississippi State. A total of five games involving C-USA schools will air on opening weekend. The entire schedule currently features 23 games on FSN, along with one contest on FX. The 2011 C-USA Championship game on Saturday, December 3 is scheduled to air on either FOX Sports (broadcast) or FX (the company's general entertainment cable network available in more than 98 million homes).
CBS Sports Network will broadcast nationally a minimum of 20 C-USA football games during the 2011 season, including 10 conference match-ups. Live game coverage kicks off with a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 10 with Purdue visiting Rice and Boston College playing at UCF. CBS Sports Network's schedule includes five doubleheader days.
As part of the league's agreement with CBS Sports Network, 10 games have been sub-licensed for regional broadcast on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). Nine of those 10 games will be league matchups.
Additional Conference USA football television exposures remain a possibility, and games will be released as soon as they are finalized.
