OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- The UAB women's golf team took home second place at the Belmont Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Old Hickory Country Club. The Blazers recorded an 18-hole score of 314 in the shortened tournament.
After strong storms moved through the area on Monday, the 36-hole tournament was shortened to just one round due to damage to the Old Hickory Country Club.
"I'm proud of the way we battled through the elements," UAB head coach Kim Wilcox said. "It was tough to find a rhythm with the weather disruptions, but I thought we did a good job staying focused."
Middle Tennessee State took home top team honors with a score of 305. Belmont finished seven strokes behind the Blazers in third place with a total of 321.
MTSU's Stephanie Smith earned medalist honors after shooting a round of 75 and knocking off teammate Karisa Akin in a playoff. UAB's Carolyn Cochran finished in third place with a score of 76.
Jaime Ritter and Ana Martin also recorded top 10 finishes for the Blazers. Ritter tied for eighth place with a round of 78, while Martin registered a 79 to tie for 10th. Lindsay Taylor recorded an 81 to tie for 18th place and Jaime Brabb rounded out the Blazer competitors with an 83 to tie for 26th.
UAB returns to the links next Monday for its final tournament before hosting the Conference USA Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala., April 17-19. The Blazers will play at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas to round out the spring slate.
