UAB Men's Tennis Team Falls To Drake, 5-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB men's tennis team fell in a 5-2 decision Monday to visiting Drake at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
The Blazers (3-5) won a pair of singles matches against the Bulldogs (10-2) who claimed victories in doubles and at four-of-six singles positions. Drake won their fourth consecutive match. UAB captured wins at No. 1 and 6 singles against Drake.
David Zimmerman outlasted Mauricio Ballivian, 7-6, 7-6, at the No. 1 position while freshman Chris Helliar defeated Drake's Jonathan Hadash, 2-6, 6-2, 3-1, at No. 6 singles.
Jean Erasmus gave Drake the clinching fourth point with his 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles over Lucas Dirube.
Danny Manlow lost in three sets at No. 3 to the Bulldogs' James McKie, 6-0, 6-7, 6-3.
Anis Ghorbel was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles over UAB's Daniel Moser while senior Dan Cornei dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Robin Goodman at No. 5.
Drake claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. UAB's Moser and Dirube were 8-5 winners at No. 3 doubles over Goodman and Ryan Drake .
The Blazers will travel to San Diego, Calif. later this week to play in the San Diego Invitational. UAB will play three matches in three days starting Friday.
