UAB Men's Tennis Falls To No. 32 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The UAB men's tennis team, playing for the second straight day, dropped a 7-0 decision Sunday to No. 32 Mississippi State at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
UAB's Chris Helliar won the first set by a 6-2 score but his MSU opponent Antonio Lastre rallied to win the next two sets, 6-0 and 6-3 to claim the victory for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State won the other five singles matches in straight sets. The Bulldogs also won all three doubles contests to claim the opening point of the match.
Artem Ilyushin clinched the match for State, capturing the fourth team point as he downed UAB's Danny Manlow at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
UAB's David Zimmerman got off to a good start at the top singles spot, winning the opening four games before falling 7-6, 6-1 to MSU's George Coupland. Daniel Moser also played a competitive match for the Blazers, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Malte Stropp at the No. 5 spot.
UAB fell to 1-1 on the season, while Mississippi State improved to 3-3. The Blazers return to action Wednesday with a 1 p.m. CT first serve at Auburn.
