Rifle Fires Past The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. ---- SirLinda Gee recorded the top overall individual score as the UAB rifle team blasted past The Citadel men's and women's teams at the Daniel K. Inouye Marksmanship Center for the Blazers first victory of the season.
The win marked the first time in the last five meetings that the Blazers defeated the Bulldogs.
All three teams took aim in the air rifle event, with the Blazers tallying an overall team total of 2235. The Citadel men placed second (2222) followed by the women's squad, posting a score of 2206.
Gee proved to be on target all afternoon as the Enterprise, Ala., product recorded a match and season-high 589 score. The junior's final six-round stat line ended at 97-97-96-96-99-99.
Finishing third in the event was Autumn Stockwell, who also recorded a season-high score of 567. Stockwell, from Mobile, Ala. fired rounds of 96-98-97-93-97-86.
The Blazers featured a third shooter in the top-10 in Abigail Duke, who tied for 10th place with a 545 score. Sarah Hicks (539) and Maegan Sisk (527) each battled in team competition for UAB.
UAB's Morgan Fancher and Lindsey Hill competed individually, posting air rifle scores of 543 and 483, respectively. Fancher's score marked a season-high for the sophomore from Pelham, Ala.
The rifle team will fire next on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Jacksonville State to take aim in the Gamecock Invitational.
