Blazer Men's Tennis Team Defeats Tulane, 4-1

NEW ORLEANS --- After losing the doubles point, the UAB men's tennis team came back with wins at the top four singles positions en route to a 4-1 victory over Tulane on the final day of the Conference USA Shootout.
In Friday's loss to East Carolina, the Blazers (12-7, 3-1 C-USA) won the doubles point but then dropped four singles matches to the Pirates in a 4-2 loss. Against the Green Wave (3-14, 0-4) on Saturday, the results were reversed as UAB lost in doubles only to rally with four straight wins in singles.
The Blazers got singles victories against Tulane from Alex Emery (No. 1), Danny Manlow (No. 2), David Zimmerman (No. 3) and Daniel Moser (No. 4). It was Emery's 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at the top spot over Shaye Wali that clinched the match for UAB.
UAB finished the weekend here with two wins in three matches, defeating Southern Miss and Tulane, but falling to ECU.
"It was good to get a win today and finish the weekend on a high note," UAB head coach Derek Tarr said. "I thought we matched up well against Tulane and we woke up after losing the doubles point."
At No. 2 singles Manlow defeated Tulane's Joe Young, 7-6, 6-3, while Zimmerman cruised past Adam Bernstein at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3. Moser's 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 over the Wave's Rodrigo Rappaccioli accounted for UAB's other singles win.
UAB will play its next match on Wednesday, April 14 when the Blazers play host to Alabama at the Lakeshore Tennis Center (1:00 p.m.).
