Men's Tennis Team Blanks North Alabama, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team turned in its second consecutive blanking of an opponent Wednesday as the Blazers eased past North Alabama, 7-0, at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
UAB (2-1) did not lose a set in the match against the Lions (0-1). The Blazers won for the second time in three days, having defeated Birmingham-Southern by a 7-0 margin on Monday.
The Blazers won the doubles point and then reeled off wins in straight sets at all six singles positions.
First-year UAB players Danny Manlow and David Zimmerman kept their singles records in dual matches perfect at 3-0 with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions in the lineup. Manlow downed Jan Miskos, 6-2, 6-4, while Zimmerman was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Bruno Zuleta.
At No. 3 singles, Dan Cornei defeated Carlos Cardenas while UAB's Daniel Moser cruised past Mirko Sommerfeld at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.
Senior Alex Emery also won by a 6-0, 6-1 score, beating UNA's Clint Johnson at the No. 5 spot. Thomas Petrich, another Blazer senior, closed out the UAB singles wins with a 7-6, 6-1 decision at No. 6 over T.J. Drake.
In doubles play, the UAB duo of Emery and Manlow defeated Cardenas and Zuleta, 8-4, at No. 1. At the No. 2 position, Cornei and Zimmerman teamed to beat the Lions' Johnson and Miskos by an 8-4 count. Moser and Petrich were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles over Drake and Sommerfeld.
UAB will be back in action Friday when the Blazers play host to Georgia State at 1:00 at the Lakeshore Tennis Center. On Saturday, UAB plays a home match at Lakeshore against No. 22-ranked Auburn with that match slated for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
