Four Blazers Still Alive At Georgia Tech Fall Invitational

ATLANTA ----- UAB men's tennis players Tom Puetz and David Zimmerman both won a pair of matches Sunday to remain alive in singles play at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational.
Meanwhile, the Blazers' doubles team of Chris Helliar and Daniel Moser also will play Monday after winning a semifinal doubles victory on Sunday.
Zimmerman, playing in the "A" Flight, defeated Lipscomb's David Salazar, 7-5, 7-5, before downing Vincent Verpeaux of Georgia State, 6-3, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Puetz won twice in the "B" Flight as he beat Andy Pulido of Vanderbilt, 7-5, 6-1, and then ousted Lipscomb's Chad Pierron, 6-1, 6-0.
Both Zimmerman and Puetz wll now play in Monday's semifinals rounds of their respective consolation brackets.
Moser fell in his Round of 16 singles match in the "A" Flight, losing to Georgia's Ignacio Taboado, the No. 5 seed, 6-4, 6-1.
UAB freshman Helliar won a three-setter in the Round of 16 of the "B" Flight over No. 1 seed Blake Bazarnik of Vanderbilt, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Helliar later fell to Georgia State's Juan Pablo Guttierrez, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
Dan Cornei, a Blazer senior, lost his Round of 16 match in the "B" Flight as he dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Moritz Dettinger of Clemson.
Fellow UAB senior John Hollimon became ill and was not able to play his consolation singles match or his doubles match in the "B" draw with Cornei.
Helliar and Moser will play in Monday's "B" Flight doubles consolation final after defeating the South Alabama tandem of Parker Allen and Jairo Seur, 8-4.
