Men's Tennis Team Heads To ITA Southern Regional Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ------ The UAB men's tennis team will take a full roster of players to Tuscaloosa this weekend to participate in the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
The four-day event will begin on Friday, Oct. 22, and end on Monday, Oct. 25. A total of 13 teams from the states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi will be competing this weekend.
Joining the Blazers for the tournament will be Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Troy and Tulane.
UAB will have nine individuals competing in the singles draw and four doubles teams in the field.
The Blazers slated for action include Dan Cornei, Danny Manlow, David Zimmerman, Chris Helliar, Daniel Moser, Tom Puetz, James Gardner, John Hollimon and Nick Iannuzzi.
The doubles tandems for UAB will be Manlow/Moser, Puetz/Zimmerman, Cornei/Helliar and Gardner/Hollimon. Manlow and Moser are one of the top eight seeds in the tournament.
Manlow, who is coming off an outstanding sophomore season in which he earned All-Conference USA honors along with teammate Zimmerman, will be playing his first matches of the fall after recovering from a foot injury.
Action will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday and will last throughout the day.
