UAB Men's Tennis Team Edged By Troy, 4-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team won the doubles point but lost four of six singles matches, including all three of the three-set matches played, as Troy defeated the Blazers, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Brook Highland Racquet Club.
UAB (8-10) won matches at No. 3 and 5 as Daniel Moser and Tyrone Ewels posted straight set wins. The Blazers won the first set in five of six singles matches and held a 3-2 lead before the Trojans rallied with wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. It was Xavier Masson's 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over UAB's Alex Emery at No. 4 that proved to be the decisive match.
UAB had taken a 3-2 lead on the strength of the win in doubles and the victories by Moser and Ewels.
Moser was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Benjamin Chomette at No. 3 while Ewels stayed hot with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Bastien Maucher at the No. 6 position.
As far as the key three-setters, in addition to Masson's win at No. 4 over Emery, Aurelien Tave defeated UAB's Dan Cornei at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Guilherme Sahadi outlasted the Blazers' Thomas Petrich, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The only straight set win in singles for Troy came at No. 2 where Branko Weber downed Brian Ly, 6-4, 6-1.
UAB had taken a 1-0 lead with its sweep in doubles by winning at all three positions. Dennis Ehrlich and Slawomir Szeremeta won at the No. 1 spot while Emery and Ly were winners at No. 2. Ewels and Moser made it a sweep with a win at No. 3 doubles.
