BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team practiced for the eighth time this spring Wednesday, signaling that the Blazers are now more than halfway through the 15 practices allowed during the spring.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway changed up the practice some from the Blazers' typical spring workout and after the practice, he said the results were positive.
"It was a good day," said Callaway. "We did a lot more 11-on-11 work than we've been doing in a normal practice, but I thought overall it was a good day."
Much of Callaway's attention continues to be on the Blazer defense, especially after the sub-par performance the defense demonstrated in last Saturday's first spring scrimmage.
"They (the defense) did some things better today," he said. "When I look at our defensive football team right now, I am looking more at individuals than the unit since we are missing so many people.
"I'm looking at the defensive line, I'm looking at the corners to see what those guys are doing. So, it's not really fair to judge the whole defense. "
The Blazers will be back on the field Friday for their ninth practice before holding their second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday.
