Blazer Tennis Team Edged By Stetson, 4-3

MOBILE, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team dropped a tight 4-3 decision to 64th-ranked Stetson here Saturday in a match that took nearly four-and-a-half hours to complete.
The Blazers (1-4), playing their fourth straight match against a ranked opponent, had taken a 3-2 lead in the match with junior Thomas Petrich's win at No. 3 singles (7-6, 6-3) over the Hatters' Njal Stene.
But Stetson (5-2) rallied with three-set wins at No. 1 singles and then in the clincher at the No. 4 position.
Filip Kricka beat UAB's Brian Ly, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, at No. 1 before Stetson's Maksim Levanovich provided the clinching fourth team point with his hard-fought, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Blazer freshman Dennis Ehrlich.
After taking a 1-0 lead with doubles wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions, the Hatters fell behind UAB, 2-1, as the Blazers took singles wins at No. 6 and 5. Alex Emery was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at the No. 6 spot, downing Stetson's Chris Swanteson.
Moments later, UAB's Daniel Moser claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Cesare Gallo at No. 5. The Hatters quickly tied the match at 2-2 with Mark Mestan's win at No. 2 singles over the Blazers' Dan Cornei, 6-4, 6-1.
