Blazers Have Strong Showing at Tiger Twilight

BATON ROUGE, La. - Sophomore Erica Whitby set a new personal record and captured first place in the high jump at the Tiger Twilight in Baton Rouge, La. On Friday.
Whitby's jump of 1.69m bested her previous personal best of 1.67m. Sophomore Samantha Hamilton also set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles finals. Her time of 8.78 smashed her previous best, 8.94. Hamilton finished seventh in the event.
"We had some great performances tonight," said UAB assistant coach Kurt Thomas. "We had some promising times heading into the conference championships next week."
Other top performers for the Blazers were seniors Kristina Olsen and Kendel Hood who finished third (5:16.26) and seventh (5:27.12), respectively, in the mile run. Freshman Katie Jorgensen finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:01.36.
The UAB track and field team returns to competition Feb.27-28 at the Conference USA Indoor Championships in Houston, Texas.
