GULF SHORES, Ala. ----- UAB redshirt junior Carolyn Cochran fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round Tuesday to capture individual medalist honors at the UAB Fall Beach Blast.
The two-day event was held at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.
Cochran, from Daphne, Ala., entered the day tied for the lead with a Kathleen Glavin of Memphis as the pair shot even-par 72s on Monday in the opening round. She finished with a two-day total of 142 over the 5,880-yard course.
Memphis won the team championship in the 12-team field as Sarah Mathews shot 147 (74-73) to finish in a three-way tie for runner-up with Samford's Sara Hunt (75-72) and Louisiana-Monroe's Victoria Gustafsson (76-71).
"Carol played solid golf for two days," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "She missed all last year (medical redshirt) and it took her a couple tournaments to get back on track this fall. I think she is now back to where she was before last year."
Jaime Brabb was UAB's second finisher, tying for 39th place with a 158 (78-80). Lundsey Gipson placed in a tie 49th at 161 (82-79) while Lindsay Taylor (78-86) and Kristin Lottman (83-81) tied for 54th at 164.
Memphis claimed the team title on the strength of its second-day team score of 295 to finish at 595. The Tigers finished ahead of Samford by 10 strokes (301-304 -- 605); Arkansas State (306-300 -- 606); Louisiana-Monroe (307-299 -- 606) and Middle Tennessee (297-315 -- 612).
Rounding out the rest of the final standings were Marshall (308-307 -- 615); Belmont (306-312 -- 618); UAB (310-310 -- 620); South Alabama (314-312 -- 626); Southern Miss (312-314 -- 626); Austin Peay (316-322 -- 638) and Tennessee Tech (333-316 -- 649).
