BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. this weekend for the Seminole Invitational.
The tournament will begin Friday morning and run through Sunday.
Joining the Blazers in the tournament will be host Florida State, Bethune-Cookman, UCF, Florida, FAMU, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Mississippi State, North Florida and USF.
This will be UAB's third fall tournament, but the first two have been cut short due to inclement weather. The first event -- the Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational -- hardly began on Sept. 11 before rain forced cancellation of the tournament. Last weekend, play on the second day at the Southern Miss Fall Invite was halted due to more rain.
Obviously, UAB head coach Derek Tarr and his team are hoping for better weather results this weekend. "We hope our guys will play a lot of matches this weekend," said Tarr. "This tournament has some quality teams here and we want to see how the guys compete."
UAB's players competing this weekend at Florida State include Danny Manlow, Daniel Moser, Tyrone Ewels, Alex Emery, Thomas Petrich and John Hollimon.
Manlow, Moser, Ewels and Emery are entered in the "A" singles draw while Petrich and Hollimon will play in the "B" division.
