UAB Finish Third And Wet At Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The UAB cross country team started off the 2008 season with third place finish on Friday at the Belmont Opener. The start of the meet was delayed 30 minutes due to severe weather in the area.
Leading the way for the Blazers through the wet conditions was Stephanie Gammon who finished fourth in a time of 14:41:55, followed by Kristina Olsen in fifth place (14:45.34). Rita Jorgensen from Vanderbilt won the meet's individual title in 14:23.32.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blazers were a trio of freshmen including Rhiannon Johns, who finished in 21st place with a time of 15:19.25, Clara Cid (15:33.97/29th) and Colleen Standridge (15:42.90/ 36th)
Vanderbilt claimed the title with a total of 44 points. Second-place Tennessee finished with 83 points followed by UAB (94) and Samford (98).
Other runners who competed in the race but were not included in the scoring were Christina Vaughn (15:56.52), Kendel Hood (16:10.87), Lucy Taylor (16:54.25), Katie Jorgensen (17:08.50) and Lacey Wright (18:03.02).
