Blazers Finish Third at Memphis Twilight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB cross country team finished with a third place finish at the Memphis Twilight on Saturday evening.
Leading the way for the Blazers for the second straight week was sophomore Stephanie Gammon who finished the 5k course in 18:39.04 to place 11th overall. Junior Kristina Olsen followed up in 14th place overall (19:02.20) with freshman Rhiannon Johns finishing in 19th place overall (19:12.88)
"We ran really good," said head coach Ray Stanfield. "I proud of how Stephanie, Kristina and Rhiannon ran. We are definitely moving in a positive direction."
Rounding out the scoring for the Blazers were freshmen Kristina Vaughn (19:42.88) who finished in 36th and Sandra Lundberg (19:55.80) in 43rd place.
Arkansas took first overall with 22 points. Kentucky finished second with 75 followed by UAB (119), Eastern Kentucky (128) and San Jose State (165). Arkansas's Catherine White took the individual title with a time of 17:39.51
Also competing for the Blazers but not included in the scoring were Colleen Standridge (20:23.83), Katie Jorgensen (20:35.22), Lucy Taylor (20:35.95), Kendel Hood (21:17.92) and Lacey Wright (22:13.62).
Next week the Blazers travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take place in the LSU invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.
