BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went through its final preparations Thursday afternoon before Saturday's matchup in Knoxville with the Tennessee Volunteers. The team practiced in shorts and helmets for 12 periods.
"We still are trying to fine tune everything," said UAB head coach Neil Callaway. "We have to make sure we are going to execute what we need to do."
During the practice, the Blazers worked on their game plan and special teams among other things. The coach acknowledged the challenge of going into Neyland Stadium and playing in front of a 100,000-plus crowd, but he feels the team is excited and prepared for the game.
"We have to go play a good football team," Callaway said. "There is always going to be some concern heading into a big game, but we are ready to go."
The team captains for UAB will be running back Jim Mitchell, center Jake Seitz and defensive end Bryant Turner.
Kickoff is set for a 12:30 p.m. EDT (11:30 a.m. CDT) in Knoxville, and the Blazers ISP Sports Network, WWMM 100.5 FM radio, will be on the air beginning at 11 a.m. (10 a.m. CDT) with pre-game coverage. Raycom Sports will also televise the game regionally.
