BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for just over two hours on Wednesday afternoon, as it continues preparations for Saturday afternoon's game at Tennessee. With the game nearing, UAB head coach Neil Callaway can sense the excitement growing within his team.
"Practice was good today," Callaway said. "We had a good attitude and worked hard. I think they're excited for Saturday. We have to just keep working hard and get all the kinks worked out."
The Blazers practiced in shoulder pads and shorts during the 18-period practice. The team and coaching staff worked on finalizing the game plan for Saturday's contest. The practice wasn't without weather problems, as the team had to dodge light rain showers throughout practice, but Callaway said the weather had no affect on the session.
"It wasn't that bad," Callaway said of the rain showers. "We got about a good 15 minutes of hard rain. It wasn't a downpour, but we got a good, steady rain all practice. It didn't affect anything."
One thing that Callaway has emphasized to his team is how important communication will be. With an expected crowd of over 100,000 at Neyland Stadium, Callaway knows that it will be an important factor.
"We just emphasize the importance," Callaway said. "I am sure (the crowd) is going to be an issue. Guys that have been here and played at Florida State last year remembered how loud it can get. You have to concentrate more and be able to communicate, so I am hoping it won't be a problem."
UAB and Tennessee are set for a 12:30 p.m. EDT (11:30 a.m. CDT) kickoff in Knoxville, and the Blazers ISP Sports Network, WWMM 100.5 FM radio, will be on the air beginning at 11 a.m. (10 a.m. CDT) with pre-game coverage. The game will also be televised regionally by Raycom Sports.
