BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team continued its preparations Wednesday afternoon for this Saturday's 2008 season opener against Tulsa.
The Blazers worked out on their practice fields for just over two hours as they look ahead to Saturday's contest against Conference USA foe Tulsa. The teams will square off at 3:00 p.m. at Legion Field.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway thought his team's performance wasn't quite as good as its effort Tuesday.
"It was okay, but it wasn't quite up to speed as yesterday," Callaway said following the practice. "Today, we did a lot more team work and not as much live work. I think we had a good day overall."
With just three days left before the season begins, Callaway said his squad is ready to take on someone other than themselves as they have done the past three weeks in practice."
"Obviously, the guys have worked hard since January," said Callaway. "They had a great summer and have had a pretty good camp overall. We only have a couple more days (before the game vs. Tulsa). I think the guys are ready to play."
He said Thursday's workout will be shorter and the focus will be Tulsa.
"We'll practice about an hour and a half," said Callaway. "It will just be helmets. It will be all Tulsa. We won't go against each other live."
Saturday's UAB/Tulsa contest will be carried on the Blazer ISP Sports Network. The game can be heard on WWMM 100.5 FM radio locally in Birmingham.
