BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went through a light 13-period practice on Friday afternoon that lasted just over one hour. The Blazers continue preparations for their season-opening game versus Tulsa next weekend.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway has felt good about his team's practice performance for most of the preseason, but still thinks the Blazers have some work to accomplish before next weekend.
"Today was good," said Callaway. "We didn't do a whole lot of work. Most of today was spent rehearsing for tomorrow.
"I thought the first 15 practices or so were really good this year. The last four or five practices have just been so-so. That may be because we have been putting in the game plan for Tulsa, but we need to be better out here."
UAB will hold a closed scrimmage on Saturday that will serve as a game day "dress rehersal" for the Blazers.
Also on tap for the football team and staff on Saturday is UAB's second annual "Breakfast with the Blazers" Fan Day.
The event will begin with the UAB coaching staff serving breakfast from 9-10 a.m. in the Bartow Arena concourse. Blazer fans will have a chance to meet the UAB football team and coaches during an autograph session from 10-11 a.m. The event will also have inflatable games for Blazer fans of all ages.
Breakfast is free for all UAB football season ticket holders and UAB students; $5 for all other guests.
UAB will open its 2008 slate on Aug. 30 by hosting Conference USA foe Tulsa. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at Legion Field.
