BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went through two practices on Wednesday as they continued to prepare for the upcoming season.
The Blazers began with a morning session in helmets and shorts that lasted close to two hours. They followed that with a more-than-two hour afternoon practice in full pads.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway continues to be impressed with the work ethic of the Blazers during preseason camp.
"Today was good," said Callaway. "This morning, we were just in helmets. This afternoon, we were in full contact and I thought they competed extremely well again."
Although there have been a lot of positives during the preseason practices thus far, Callaway still feels that the Blazers have a lot of work to accomplish in the remaining sessions.
"We're doing some good things," said Callaway. "We're not where we want to be yet, but I really like the work ethic and the competition that they have been showing."
There have been a few players that have caught the eye of Callaway and the rest of the coaching staff with less than three weeks remaining until the season gets underway.
"On the defensive side, Terry Thomas has really had a good camp," said Callaway. "Chase Daniel and David Decordova have also done some things that are really encouraging.
"Offensively, Aaron Johns has done some good things. Joe Webb has had a great camp, but that's not surprising. Justin Johnson has done well this preseason, as well as Mark Ferrell and Rodell Carter."
UAB opens its 2008 campaign on Aug. 30 when it hosts Conference USA foe Tulsa. Kickoff is schedule for 3 p.m. CT at Legion Field.
