BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team completed its first two-a-day practice of the season on Monday. The Blazers went through a 23-period practice in the morning and wrapped up with another 23-period practice in the afternoon.
In the morning session, the team was in full pads and focused on situational plays. UAB head coach Neil Callaway was happy with the way that the players responded to their first day of two-a-days.
"I thought we had a lot of good competition," said Callaway. "There was a lot of contact on both sides of the ball. I thought the enthusiasm was good. We were better today than we were Saturday. "
Callaway was also pleased with the improvement he saw on the defensive side of the ball from Saturday's scrimmage.
"I think they responded well," said Callaway. "They gave up to many plays and yards on Saturday. It was good to see them come back and respond."
In the afternoon, the Blazers suited up in shoulder pads and helmets for the two-plus hour practice.
"Overall today was a good day," said Callaway. "The guys were working hard. We just have to come back tomorrow and do it again with the same intensity and work ethic."
UAB opens its 2008 season against Tulsa on Aug. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at Legion Field.
