UAB Men's Tennis Team Wins Seventh Straight

RIVERSIDE, Calif. ----- The UAB men's tennis team won its seventh consecutive match, defeating Cal Riverside, 5-2.
The Blazers, who improved to 8-1 in dual matches this season, won the doubles point and took four of six singles matches to win their third match in four days on their west coast trip.
Freshman Tyrone Ewels provided the clinching win for UAB with his 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory over UC-Riverside's Jack Tadevosian at No. 3 singles.
The Blazers played without senior Johannes Spangenberg, their No. 1 player who sat ou the match due to an ankle injury.
UAB took a 1-0 lead by swepping the doubles matches.
Freshman Dan Cornei moved up to the No. 1 position for the Blazers but lost UCR's Joe Cartledge, 6-4, 6-3. The singles loss was Cornei's first of the season. The Blazers got wins at No. 3-6 in singles. UAB's Brian Ly won at No. 4 over John Park, 6-4, 6-1 while sophomore Thomas Petrich took outlasted UC Riverside's Quoc Doan at No. 5, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.
The Blazers got their final win at the No. 6 position as Alex Emery defeated Ahmad Shiraz, 6-4, 6-2.
UAB is back in action Friday when plays at Conference USA foe Memphis.
