UAB Drops Close Battle At East Carolina, 85-82

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The UAB women's basketball team fell to the East Carolina Pirates, 85-82, in a tight battle Thursday evening at the Minges Coliseum. Junior guard Britney Jones paced UAB with a season-high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 7-of-9 from three-point range.
UAB moves to 12-14 overall and 8-5 in Conference USA. East Carolina improves to 13-13 overall and 7-6 in league play.
UAB shot 57.1 percent in the first half and 39.4 percent in the second half for a 47.5 shooting percentage overall. The Blazers hit 11-of-23 from beyond the arc (47.8 percent) and 13-of-14 from the charity stripe (92.9 percent).
Jones sank a career-best seven treys on her way to 25 points for the Blazers. Jones also added a team-best eight rebounds and three assists on the night.
UAB senior guard Crystal McFadden put up 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while also grabbing four boards and dishing out one assist.
East Carolina shot 46.9 percent overall on the night, including 33.3 percent from three-point range and 69.0 percent from the free throw line.
Junior guard LaCoya Terry hit 13-of-24 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line for a game-high 35 points for the Pirates. Junior forward Gabriela Husarova contributed 13 points and junior guard Jasmine Young added 10.
The Blazers will be back in action Saturday when they take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W. Va.
