Women's Golf Places Eighth At UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Senior Christina Wentworth shot rounds of 74 and 71 to finish tied for second in the individual standings and lead the UAB women's golf team to an eighth place finish at the third annual UAB Fall Beach Blast. The Blazers tallied team scores of 314 and 310 to complete the tournament with a 624 at The Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.
"We improved our play today," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "I think we played with a lot of confidence and made some good shots. Christina played exceptionally well and I am proud of her performance over the past two days."
UAB's Wentworth tallied a 145 over 36 holes, including a one-under par 71 in the final round to finish the tournament in a tie for second place. Sophomore Lindsay Taylor carded rounds of 76 and 77 to place in a tie for 17th at 153.
Sophomore Jaime Brabb shot an 82 on day one, and followed that with an 80 on day two, to tie for 43rd place at 162. Senior Alyson Mitchell tied for the 50th position with a 164 after identical rounds of 82. Freshman Kristin Lottman rounded out UAB's efforts with a 169 (87-82) to end in a tie for 63rd place.
Columbia maintained its first-place standing from day one and won the tournament title with a two-day score of 597. Samford placed second with a 603 and Jacksonville State rounded out the top three at 618.
Columbia's Stevy Loy earned medalist honors after shooting a 67 in the final round for a two-under par 142. Other players who were named to the all-tournament team included UAB's Wentworth (145), Belmont's Lorie Warren (145), Samford's Sara Hunt (148), Indiana State's Kayley Bodine (149) and Jacksonville State's Laura Cutler (149).
The UAB Fall Beach Blast concluded the Blazers' fall schedule. UAB will be back in action when it kicks off its spring schedule at the Lady Jaguar Invitational on March 2-3 in Mobile, Ala.
