BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went back to work Tuesday afternoon in preparation for its showdown at Florida State on Saturday. The Blazers worked out in full pads for 20 periods in what was a more spirited practice through the eyes of head coach Neil Callaway.
"We're still learning, but I did see them fighting through things a little more, particularly defensively," Callaway said. "We're not where we need to be but I did see them fighting through it and I think we'll get better. We wanted to work hard, but we didn't want to get anyone hurt out there."
Both UAB and Florida State will be looking to avenge week one losses on Saturday after the Blazers lost at Michigan State and Florida State lost a 24-18 decision at Clemson Monday night.
In his assessment of Florida State's performance at Clemson, Callaway said he thought it was a tale of two halves and that he came away believing Florida State is an impressive football team.
"I thought the first half they (Florida State) struggled as a whole team," he said. "I don't know if they weren't ready to play or if they were nervous, but obviously the second half they played pretty darn good. I'm sure they'll be ready to go."
The Blazers and the Seminoles will kickoff at 4 p.m. CT in Tallahassee, Fla., Saturday. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
