BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's cross country team will have four in-state meets, along with other familiar destinations, to highlight its 2007 schedule, announced head coach Ray Stanfield. The Blazers have a total of seven meets on the '07 slate before heading to El Paso, Texas to defend their Conference USA Championship on Oct. 27.
"Our 2007 cross country schedule has a very familiar ring to it," said Stanfield. "This team is senior laden and very accomplished in their careers here at UAB. This schedule will give us every chance needed to repeat as Conference USA Champions, and get to the NCAA Championships in November."
UAB will begin its season in Nashville, Tenn. at the Belmont Opener on Aug. 31. The Blazers will then return to Alabama for back-to-back in-state meets the next two weeks. First will be the UAH Classic in Huntsville on Sept. 8, followed by the Crimson Classic on Sept. 14 in Tuscaloosa.
After a week off, a pair of meets in Indiana awaits the Blazers, including the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 28 and the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute on Oct. 13.
UAB will then return home to Birmingham to compete in the annual Great American Festival on Oct. 13, before heading to Troy, Ala. to run in the Troy Invitational on Oct. 20.
Concluding the regular season will be the Conference USA Championships, hosted by UTEP on Oct. 27, where the Blazers will look to repeat their 2006 C-USA Championship effort.
