UAB Finishes Ninth At Conference USA Women's Golf Championship

ONEONTA, Ala. ----- The UAB women's golf team finished the 2007 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship with a ninth place effort. The tournament, hosted by the Blazers at Limestone Springs Golf Club, concluded with the final round Wednesday. Memphis took home the league's team title, firing a three-round score of 912.
East Carolina ended just two strokes behind Memphis at 914 to take second place, while UCF, UTEP and SMU all tied for third place at 922. Tulsa finished in sixth with a score of 935, while Marshall took seventh at 966. Southern Miss concluded the tournament in eighth place with a score of 967 and UAB rounded out the field in ninth at 984.
Senior Jennifer Head and freshman Carolyn Cochran led the Blazers' effort, tying for the 19th spot with 237. Senior Martha Hudson tallied a three-round score of 253 to tie for 41st place.
Freshman Alyson Mitchell carded a three-round score of 265 to come in 43rd place and sophomore Christina Wentworth took 44th place with a total of 267.
UTEP's Gerina Mendoza took home the individual title, going nine-under through three rounds for a total of 207. Memphis' Stacey Tate took second at 212 and Kate Ackerson of SMU finished third at 223.
"We really enjoyed hosting the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship this year," said Kim Wilcox. "Anytime we get to host a tournament, it is great for our team. It turned out to be a great event with outstanding competition that went down to the wire."
