BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Cory Provus, Director of Broadcasting for the ISP Blazer Sports Network, has accepted a position with WGN radio as a member of the Chicago Cubs broadcast team, officials for ISP Sports, exclusive multimedia rightsholder for UAB Athletics, have announced. Provus will leave ISP for his new position immediately.
Provus, a native of Chicago, served as radio play-by-play man for UAB football and men's basketball as well as host of radio and television shows for both sports.
"We are certainly sorry to see Cory go, but are happy to see him realize a lifelong dream to work in professional sports in his hometown," Tony Grillo, general manager of ISP's UAB staff, says. "We knew when Cory came to Birmingham that a position with the Cubs was one of very few jobs that he would consider leaving for, and the fact that they have offered him this opportunity is a testament to his talent."
"We look forward to again working with ISP to identify the voice of the Blazers. We'll begin a national search immediately," said Sam Miller, UAB associate athletic director for marketing.
During the past year under Provus' leadership, the ISP Blazer Radio Network added two new affiliates and underwent a major upgrade in production of game broadcasts and television shows. His fulltime role with ISP was also a key in creating relationships with several new sponsors for UAB Athletics.
