UAB Announces 2007 Football Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team will kick off the 2007 season and the Neil Callaway era with road games at Michigan State and Florida State before returning home for the first of five games at Legion Field, according to the full schedule announced Monday.
The Blazers will face a formidable challenge with back-to-back road games in kicking off the new season. UAB will make a first-ever appearance against Big Ten Conference foe Michigan State on Saturday, Sept. 1 when the Blazers travel to Spartan Stadium. A week later, UAB will be in Tallahassee, Fla. to meet FSU, its third all-time meeting with the Seminoles and first since the 2004 season.
The Blazers will play their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they play host to Alcorn State at Legion Field. Following an open date, UAB then opens Conference USA play when it travels to Tulsa to meet the Golden Hurricane on Sept. 29. The late-September contest represents the first football meeting between UAB and Tulsa.
A week later, the Blazers venture outside league play for their final non-conference game of the season when they travel to Starkville, Miss. to meet Mississippi State on Oct. 6. UAB defeated MSU in Starkville in 2004 and is tied 1-1 in the series with the Bulldogs after State beat the Blazers last season at Legion Field.
Following the game in Starkville, UAB will then head into a mid-season stretch where it will play four home games in five weeks. The first of those will come Saturday, Oct. 13 when Tulane visits Legion Field for the first meeting between the schools since 2004. A week later, the Blazers will play host to the Houston Cougars. UAB and the Cougars also have not played since the 2004 season.
The Blazers travel to East Carolina Oct. 27 before returning home to meet Southern Miss on November 3 and UCF on November 10. UAB closes out its regular season with road games at Memphis (Nov. 17) and Marshall (Nov. 24).
