BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team took to the field Thursday making final preparations for Saturday's East Carolina game, marking the Blazers' second Conference USA road game of the season.
The Blazers (2-4, 1-2 C-USA) practiced in cold and wet conditions for the second time this week, before facing the Pirates (4-4, 3-1 C-USA). Saturday's forecast in Greenville, N.C. calls for rain and head coach Neil Callaway said it's both helpful and hurtful at practice.
"Certainly it helps to practice in the conditions you are going to face," Callaway said. "At the same time though, it makes it difficult to get things done in practice. I think it was a positive thing being able to practice in."
Thursday's 15-period practice lasted just over an hour and was spent going over the final details of the game plan for the Pirates; however, Callaway felt that there were a few minor adjustments that would be made at the team's walk-through Friday.
This will also be the fifth road game of the year and fourth conference game overall. The Blazers lost to Tulsa, 38-30, on Sept. 29, in their only other league road game.
Callaway also named senior Zach Britten (defense), senior Adam Truitt (offense) and junior Jeff Hamby (special teams) as captains for Saturday's 2:30 CT (3:30 ET) kickoff against the Pirates.
ABC 33/40 will carry Mid-Atlantic Sports Network's (MASN) television broadcast of the game live back to Birmingham at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Radio coverage of the game can be heard on the Blazers' ISP Sports Network flagship station WUHT 107.7 FM. The broadcast can also be heard on affiliates WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery, WTRB 98.3 FM in Talladega and WACT 1420 AM in Tuscaloosa.
