BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team spent 20, five-minute periods on the practice field Wednesday afternoon, putting in the new game plan for upcoming opponent Troy. Saturday's matchup with the Trojans also serves as UAB's Homecoming game. The Blazers are 9-3 all-time in Homecoming contests at Legion Field.
UAB is forced to put in a completely different game plan that what it is used to, due to Troy's pass-happy offense that will spread a defense out throughout the field.
"We haven't played anything close to this," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "This is different or us. Three of them (opponents) have been power football and East Carolina would spread you out, but it was more downfield stuff."
The Blazers have met up with Troy on the gridiron on five previous occasions, including a September 10 meeting last season that ended with a 27-7 UAB victory. Troy leads the all-time series 3-2, with its last win over the Blazers coming on September 13, 2003 in Birmingham, 20-9.
UAB will continue its preparations for the Trojans on Thursday afternoon with its final practice session of the week.
Saturday's Homecoming game between the Blazers and Troy will kickoff at 6 p.m. at Legion Field.
The game can be heard on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, beginning at 4:30 p.m. CST. Birmingham listeners can follow all the action on WYDE 101.1 FM, as well as WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery.
