BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team continued its preseason preparations Thursday as the date of the 2006 season opener at fifth-ranked Oklahoma is now just nine days away.
The Blazers spent two hours in the afternoon on the practice field, working in full pads.
"I think we had a good physical practice," said head coach Watson Brown. "We've still got to continue to improve in some areas before we head out to Oklahoma and play a football game."
Brown also talked about his quarterback situation where he plans to use more than one signal-caller this season. It appears senior Chris Williams will be the starter in Norman, according to Brown, but junior transfer Sam Hunt will see action and depending on the "feel" of the game, it could come early against the Sooners.
"He (Chris) will be the one out there first," said Brown. "He's been there before. He started at Georgia when we played them earlier. I'm not sure how we'll rotate them. It's going to be a total "feel" thing. We may be alternating all year. We'll see how it goes. They need to keep improving. They have one more week before we kick it off, but now we're into game-plan reps."
The Sept. 2 game with Oklahoma is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the contest will be nationally-televised on TBS.
The radio coverage can be heard on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, beginning at 4:30 p.m. CST. Birmingham listeners can follow all the action on WYDE 101.1 FM, and WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery.
