AUBURN, Ala. -- Alan Kaufman's UAB men's golf team tees off Friday in the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate hosted by Auburn University. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on the par-72, 7,275-yard Auburn University Club Course.
The Blazers will face another challenging field with host Auburn, Charlotte, College of Charleston, Jacksonville State, Memphis, Mercer, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ole Miss, South Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana on the course. Three members of the field (No. 24 Charlotte, No. 38 Auburn and No. 50 Ole Miss) are rated in the top 50 according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. UAB is No. 58 this week.
UAB is coming off an impressive second place finish at Indiana's Pinehurst Intercollegiate March 19-21. Freshman Josh Thompson finished tied for sixth in the field while senior Clark Brown finished 13th on the leaderboard.
Kaufman hopes junior Garrett Osborn, who is ranked 16th nationally by Golfweek but reached as high as No. 2 this season, recovers from an 80-75 performance at Pinehurst. Osborn has recorded just four of 12 rounds at or under par during the spring after a fall in which he averaged 70.25 strokes per round.
The Blazers will send Osborn, Brown, Thompson, Kyle Sapp and Kaylor Timmons to the tee this weekend.
