Blazers Jump Into FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team has moved into the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings after winning eight of its last nine matches. The Blazers are listed at No. 66 in the latest rankings released Tuesday.

UAB (11-3), which plays host to No. 41 Alabama Wednesday (4:30 p.m.) at the Brook Highland Racquet Club, posted a pair of victories last week over ranked opponents. The Blazers downed No. 71 Southeastern Louisiana (6-1) on Wednesday before defeating No. 69 East Tennessee State (4-3) on Friday.

Meanwhile, UAB senior Anton Mavrin was named the Conference USA Men's Player of the Week after helping the Blazers to the two wins last week. He was perfect in singles and doubles, playing the No. 1 position in both. Mavrin improved to 10-4 in singles dual matches and 8-4 in doubles dual matches.
