The UAB men's golf team returns to action Sunday through Tuesday, March 19-21, at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C. The event is hosted by Indiana University and will be played on the par 72, 7,035-yard Centennial Course No. 8 at the historic Pinehurst Golf Course.
"Pinehurst is a challenging course and one we look forward to playing each time we get the chance," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "We didn't fare as well as we would have hoped last time round and are looking for that spark to get our spring play back in line with what we did in the fall. Hopefully, we can find it this week at Pinehurst."
Kafuman's Blazers are coming off a disappointing 13th place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate at Florida State earlier this month. Garrett Osborn continues to pace the Blazers. He finished tied for 19th in the Seminole after rounds of 75-72-71. Osborn is ranked third nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin power ratings.
The Pinehurst Intercollegiate features another strong field for UAB to challenge. Host Indiana is joined by five Golfweek/Sagarin top 50 teams in the field. Charlotte (24), Illinois (39), SMU (40), Xavier (42) and the Blazers (50) all dot the field, as do Ball State, East Carolina, Marquette, Michigan, Penn State, Rhode Island, Southern Miss, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, VCU and Wisconsin.
Kaufman will send Osborn, senior Clark Brown, sophomore Kyle Sapp and freshmen Josh Thompson and Zack Sucher to the tees at Pinehurst.
