UAB Men's Tennis Dominates Tennessee-Martin, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB men's tennis team won the doubles point and took five of the six singles matches to defeat Tennessee-Martin, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. The Blazers improve to 6-2 on the season with the victory and have now won five of their last six matches.
"We played a much more solid match than we did against Jacksonville State," said UAB head coach Derek Tarr. "The guys were ready to play and it showed in their matches. Hopefully this is a sign of what is to come because we have to go to Auburn for our next match. If we are going to win that match, we have to play our best tennis."
In doubles action, Blazers Anton Mavrin and Kristijan Mitrovski played in the No. 1 position and defeated Daniel McGuire and Stephen Bruwer, 8-3. The Skyhawks managed to win at the No.2 spot, 8-6. UAB clinched the point at the No. 3 tilt, after Thomas Weiss and Johannes Spangenberg dominated William Taylor and Andrey Yesipov, 8-3.
The Blazers completely controlled the singles action. Mavrin picked up a point at No. 1 singles after beating Adolfo Anzola in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Mitrovski and Falk played well and won at their respective positions, 6-0, 6-0.
Yesipov won the only singles match for the Skyhawks at the No. 4 tilt, 6-3, 6-2, over Adrian Tollstam. UAB won the final two singles positions. Spangenberg beat Mollaymeri in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, and Kruno Despotovski won No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.
