UAB Cross Country Team Seventh At NCAA South Regional

MARYVILLE, Tenn. ----- The UAB cross country team finished seventh of 23 teams here Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The Blazers' top five runners all finished within 18 places of each other with junior Whitney Mays leading the way with a 32nd place effort (22:19.1). Freshman Kristina Olsen was 33rd at 22:19.5, followed by Elizabeth Hilligoss (39th, 22:34.6), Katie Stepp (41st, 22:35.8) and Jennifer Thompson (50th, 22:48.1).
UAB finished with 195 points, placing behind champion Georgia (35), Florida (70), Tennessee (80), Florida State (84), Georgia Tech (187) and Chattanooga (189).
Other state schools competing in the South Regional were Auburn which placed 12th with 340 points, Alabama (14th, 378), Samford (18th, 468), Jacksonville State (554) and Birmingham Southern (570).
The Blazers' Jakia Williams finished 71st (23:39.5) and Ryanne Fortney 75th (23:42.1) in the meet that featured 155 individual competitors.
Florida State's Susan Kuijken claimed the individual title with a course-record time of 20:54.1.
