BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced again in helmets and shoulder pads for about two hours on Thursday afternoon as the Blazers continued to work on their gameplan for Saturday's showdown at Troy. As UAB tries to rebound from last Saturday's loss at third-ranked Tennessee, head coach Watson Brown sees similarities betwen the Vols and Trojans.
"I think we're going into a hostile atmosphere again this weekend which is a similarity," said Brown. "Troy has always been a tough team. They run well and they get after you which is another similarity between the two. Their style has always been to beat you with aggressive football. There are some technical differences between the teams but a lot of similarities."
The Blazers will not leave for Troy until Saturday, allowing for another short practice on Friday.
"We're going to go over to Samford tomorrow and get on their turf for 30 minutes because we'll be on turf at Troy," said Brown. "Then we'll head to the hotel and get up and be ready to play football on Saturday."
The Blazers hope to avenge a 20-9 home loss to Troy in the 2003 season with a win on Saturday. UAB downed the Trojans 27-26 in 2002.
Saturday's 7:00 p.m. CT game will be televised as part of the ESPN Plus package from Movie Gallery Stadium in Troy. The game can be seen in the Birmingham market, on WABM TV (UPN 68).
