Blazers Finish 20th At Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The UAB cross country team finished 20th in the women's Blue Division of the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational here Friday afternoon. The Blazers were led by junior Elizabeth Ambrus, who placed 60th out of 200 competitors in the 5K race with a time of 17:58.
Junior Jennifer Thompson placed 104th for UAB, finishing the course in 18:30. Whitney Mays, a sophomore, was one second off of her career best, recording a time of 18:39 and finishing 113th.
With a time of 18:43, sophomore Elizabeth Hilligoss placed 124th for the Blazers, while junior Ryanne Fortney finished 149th for UAB, tallying a time of 19:03.
UAB's freshmen continued to get good experience, as Jakia Williams finished the course in 20:00, placing 191st, while Tracy Rowan finished 200th after recording a time of 21:20, in the first 5K race of her collegiate career.
Michigan, currently ranked fifth in the nation, took the team title with 77 points, finishing ahead of 20th-ranked Illinois' 82 points. Third-ranked Notre Dame had the top-two runners and placed third in the event with 91 points. The Blazers tallied 530 points in the event, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech, who tallied 559 points, Florida's 560 points, Miami (Ohio) with 594 and Mississippi State's 601.
UAB will take a week off from competition before heading to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Brooks Pre-National Meet on Oct. 15.
