BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced in helmets and shorts for about two hours Thursday afternoon as the Blazers had their final practice of the week before Friday's walk-through for the game against Rice. UAB takes on the Owls Saturday in its first Conference USA game of the season at Legion Field. Despite having an open date last week, head coach Watson Brown has confidence in his Blazers.
"Its time to go," said Brown. "Its time for us now to jump into this league and see what we can do. This is our first of eight league games and we have to do everything in our power to win. We have to perform on Saturday night."
This will mark the first ever meeting between the Blazers and Owls on the gridiron. Rice is 0-2 on the season after suffering losses at Texas and UCLA and will be looking to end an eight-game losing streak. UAB is 2-1 after back-to-back wins at Troy and against Jacksonville State.
Saturday's kickoff at Legion Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Tickets for the game are available by calling the UAB ticket office at (205) 975-UAB1. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. CT. The game will be carried live on the ISP Blazer Sports Network on the flagship station, WYDE-FM 101.1.
